The first year I photographed this event, it’s inaugural year 2011, I thought I had seen it all in a 2-day concert. 2012’s version took it up yet another notch, again bringing the house down for another hot Vegas weekend…
Being at the MGM Grand again was awesome. Having worked there the previous year was a solid plus; seeing lots of familiar faces is always a good thing 🙂
Again I was privileged to be onsite from the rolling in of the first case, at approximately 6:00am Monday morning, 4.5 days from showtime…
The memorable shot for me is the one of Pink flying through the arena. It nearly hit the cutting room floor until I started playing with it a little. Its not a surprise that a photo looking AWAY from the stage would stand out to me – considering I took nearly 15,000 photos of artists performing ON stage!
People ask me a lot “do you use actions on your photos?” The answer is really no, I don’t. I do adjust for color and contrast, and I typically just dodge and burn the areas I want to adjust for… In a photo like the one of Pink, I adjusted the black point a bit to compensate for the bright light coming into the camera… All this can be done in Aperture, Lightroom, or Photoshop. Basic stuff.
